The East Meadow School District is proud to announce that W.T. Clarke High School freshman Elizabeth Paulino has been nominated for Outstanding Performer in a Musical by the 13th annual Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance.
Elizabeth is one of 56 students selected as nominees, for her performance as Rusty in “Footloose.” The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance is part of the Broadway Education Alliance & Disney Theatricals. Every year, the Roger Rees Awards recognizes distinction in student performance and outstanding achievement in high school musical theater programs in the greater New York metropolitan area. The program is funded through donations from industry professionals, foundations, licensing companies, and other individuals or companies committed to supporting performing arts programs in area schools.
W.T. Clarke High School entered five students into the Outstanding Performance in a Musical category, nominated by Theatre Arts Society Director & Choreographer, Mr. Gregory Krajci, for their work in the production of “Footloose.” Adjudicators attended the performances and evaluated the performers based on presence, characterization, movement and musicianship.
Elizabeth will attend a two-day intensive institute from May 20-21 at the Professional Performing Arts High School in Manhattan, where she will have coaching sessions with industry professionals. Based on the students’ performance, the top 12 finalists will perform in the showcase on May 21. Two winners and runners-up will be announced and these students will advance to the Jimmy Awards at the national level.
W.T. Clarke High School’s Music Department, Theatre Arts Society, and school community are extremely proud of Elizabeth for her hard work and dedication, and wish her all the best at the competition.
