Dear East Meadow School District Parents and Students,
As we come to the end of the school year, I want to address an issue that has been on many of our minds: the rise of antisemitic incidents in our community. As a community, we must come together to support all our students and their families, and to emphasize kindness and compassion for everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs.
In light of recent events, it is important that we take proactive steps to educate our children about antisemitism and the importance of tolerance and acceptance of all cultures, religions, and races. Here are some suggestions for parents in our region:
1. Visit the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County: This museum is dedicated to educating visitors about the Holocaust and promoting tolerance and understanding. It offers exhibits, programs, and educational resources for all ages.
2. Take a trip to the Jewish Museum of New York: This museum offers exhibits and programs on Jewish history, culture, and art, and provides an opportunity to learn about the contributions of Jewish people to society.
3. Attend cultural festivals and events: Long Island is home to many cultural festivals and events throughout the year, providing an opportunity to learn about and celebrate different cultures and traditions.
4. Visit local places of worship: Visiting local synagogues and other places of worship can help children learn about different religions and promote understanding and respect.
5. Encourage participation in community service: Volunteering for community service projects is a great way for children to meet people from different backgrounds and to learn about the needs and challenges facing different communities.
I urge all parents to speak with their children about the importance of speaking up if they see or hear something that makes them uncomfortable. We must ensure that we are taking care of our families, friends, and neighbors, and that we are working together to create a safe and welcoming environment.
Remember, it is our responsibility as a community to work together to combat antisemitism and to promote tolerance and acceptance for all. Let us continue to work together to ensure that our East Meadow School District can be a symbol of inclusivity and respect for all.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
