Dear East Meadow School Community,
I am writing to address the current air quality concerns that have been affecting our region. As many of you are aware, the air quality outdoors has been a cause for concern due to a number of factors, including high levels of pollution and other environmental factors.
As a result of these concerns, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our district-wide awards ceremony for music and art, as well as our humanitarian and academic awards program. We understand that this decision may be disappointing for many of our students and their families, but we believe it is in the best interest of everyone's health and safety.
We want to assure you that we are taking these concerns seriously. We are closely monitoring the situation so we can take appropriate action as needed. We will work with our principals and directors to determine if the ceremony can be rescheduled. If not, we will determine the best way to distribute the awards that would have been presented at tonight's cancelled ceremony.
We know that this is a challenging time for everyone, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your principal with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools, East Meadow School District
