EMS workers demonstrate how to pack a wound to Bowling Green Staff Members

Bowling Green staff members participated in the Stop The Bleed program presented by Sloan Yoselowitz, DPT, CSCS, from the Nassau University Medical Center and our local Nassau county EMS workers. The staff learned how to control bleeding caused by various accidents that could cause serious bleeding such as encounters with broken glass, vegetable chopping, power equipment, firearms, natural disasters, motor vehicle crashes and workplace injuries. They learned the ABC’s of bleeding control. A stands for Alert 911. It is a priority to call emergency services personnel to give a detailed explanation of the scene and the people involved. B stands for Bleeding. They learned how to identify life threatening bleeding and how to pack a wound. C stands for Compress. The staff was instructed on how to control bleeding through pressure, packing and the use of tourniquets. With the assistance of the EMS workers, the staff then broke into groups and practiced applying tourniquets, packing wounds and applying appropriate pressure to stop the bleeding.
