Remembering September 11, 2001. It was a sea of red, white, and blue on the front lawn of Barnum Woods School this morning as students and staff gathered together for a Patriot Day Ceremony, honoring those who were lost on 9/11 and thanking all of our 9/11 heroes. The Barnum Woods Principal, Mrs. Sagnelli, began the ceremony explaining the definition of a true hero. Mrs. Alfano, Assitant Principal at Barnum Woods, spoke of the bravery that the first responders demonstrated on this tragic day, and followed with a moment of silence. The Student Council President , Olivia, shared a beautiful poem, and the American flag was then lowered at half-staff. Tyler, the Student Council Vice President, led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by music teacher, Mrs. Hughes, singing an inspiring rendition of the United States National Anthem. The students and staff of Barnum Woods will never forget 9/11/01.

Mrs. Berrys 4th grade students used their critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills to Save Fred! Students learned how important it is to listen to their classmates when trying to solve problems and to always persevere when faced with challenges. They also had many laughs and lots of fun saving their new worm-friend, Fred!

In honor of our brave, loyal, and dedicated local law enforcement, the Barnum Woods students designed and painted over 480 rocks showing their love and appreciation for our local heroes. The Barnum Woods School Spirit Squad, led by Mrs. Carney, Ms. Davanzo, and Ms. DiGristina, hosted a beautiful ceremony to launch Barnum's Law Enforcement Rock Garden with our local law enforcement officers as their honored guests. The top three classes with the most rock submissions, Mr. Lupo and Ms. Carrique's 3rd grade class, Mrs. Carney's 4th grade class, and Ms. Davanzo's 2nd grade class, attended the ceremony, and each class had a special presentation for the police officers. Mrs. Carney's class created a heartfelt poem, thanking our police officers for keeping us safe and for all that they do for us. Mr. Lupo and Mrs. Carrique's class sang Lee Greenwood's song, God Bless the USA, bringing tears to the eyes of all who were in attendance. Ms. Davanzo's class displayed their amazing posters that they created and signed, showing their support for our true heroes!
