The East Meadow School District congratulates the East Meadow High School’s Jets Marching Band, who captured first place in New York City’s 79th annual Columbus Day Parade on Oct. 9.
The Jets wore green ribbons on their uniforms in support of the Farmingdale Marching Band. “The band world is a very small and tight knit community, and we all have strong ties to Band Director Gina Pellettiere and the music staff at Farmingdale High School,” said Stephen Engle, East Meadow High School’s chairman of music. “Together we stand with our friends and the entire Farmingdale community as we mourn the loss of Gina, Beatrice Ferrari and pray for all of those affected by this tragedy.”
The Jets have performed in the annual Columbus Day Parade since 1992, and this year marked the 17th time that the Jets were awarded first-place honors. Their 2023-24 performance program includes Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.
The district commends the Jets Marching Band for their success in the Columbus Day parade and looks forward to a fantastic remainder of the season.
