Dr. Richard Gatteau speaking to people in an auditorium

On Jan. 31, parents and 11th graders filled East Meadow High School’s auditorium during the high school guidance department’s annual Junior College Planning Night.

Guest speaker Dr. Richard Gatteau, vice president for student affairs at Stony Brook University, spoke to students and parents about the college admissions and application process.

“You are in the right place at the right time if you are a junior in high school, because this is the start of a really important time in your life,” Dr. Gatteau said. “What I’m hoping to do is calm the nerves as we go along.”

An alumnus of the East Meadow School District, Dr. Gatteau reviewed factors to consider in the college selection process, how colleges and universities are responding to changes caused by the coronavirus pandemic, how to build a strong application, and what types of classes students should expect to take in their first year of college.
