On March 10, the Italian Club at Parkway Elementary School in East Meadow held its 22nd annual Carnevale Festa.
Led by teachers Annamaria Izzo-Barbieri, Chiara Marangelli and Brianna Messere, the club was proud to have more than 100 student members in grades 2-5 participate in this culminating activity. Students paraded into the all-purpose room showing off their homemade maschere (masks) as they recited the Italian National Anthem and a Carnevale poem. Afterwards, they celebrated while enjoying a feast of Italian foods such as pizza, meatballs, garlic knots, salads, dessert and lemon-flavored Italian ices.
Parkway thanks all of the parent chaperones and student helpers from East Meadow High School as well as Woodland Middle School for assisting the club. The club was honored to see that most of the student helpers were former Italian Club members, and they were happy to see them sing and recite the poem alongside the elementary students.
The student helpers assisted with set-up, serving food and drinks to the younger children, clean-up and dismissal procedures. In addition, they took time to speak with the younger students about Italian culture and language. The student helpers worked to make sure that this event was memorable for every elementary student.
Parkway thanks everyone involved for helping to make the Carnevale Festa a huge success.
