On Jan. 24, third graders at Parkway Elementary School in East Meadow designed their own magnetic recycling sorters.
Students worked in pairs in the school’s STEM lab as they used different recyclable items such as water bottles, paper towel rolls and paper plates to craft a magnetic recycling sorter that could separate recyclable material. This lesson allowed students to learn about the challenges that waste management centers face and different methods they use to sort recycling.
