Students on risers and wearing orange

Sixth graders at Woodland Middle School in East Meadow went back in time as they celebrated Greek mythology during the schoolā€™s annual Festival Games on Dec. 16.

The Festival Games is a day of team building activities inspired by ā€œThe Lightning Thief,ā€ the first novel in Rick Riordanā€™s ā€œPercy Jackson and the Olympiansā€ series. It was designed as a day to celebrate teamwork and to participate in healthy competition between the four sixth grade clusters ruled by Ares (Cluster 1), Poseidon (Cluster 2), Athena (Cluster 3) and Zeus (Cluster 4),

Students worked together with their teams to transform their classrooms into cabins, each depicting their respective Greek god or goddess. During the day, a variety of grade-level activities were planned, including, Capture the Flag and trivia games such as ā€œItā€™s All Greek to Me,ā€ ā€œI Vaporized My Pre-Algebra Teacherā€ and ā€œOlympian Family Feud.ā€

At the end of the games, Team Zeus was awarded a trophy for earning the most points.

Woodland Middle School sixth graders representing Team Ares supported their fellow classmates during ā€œOlympian Family Feud.ā€

: Woodland Middle School sixth graders divided into four teams based on the Greek gods Ares, Athena, Hades and Poseidon.

After ā€œOlympian Family Feud,ā€ teams took a tour of each cabin.
