Celebrating Star Wars Day at Barnum Woods!! "May the 4th be with you!"

"A Perfect Parrot Afternoon!"
The Barnum Woods K-Kids Club, led by the K-Kids Teacher Supervisor, Mrs. Melody Schiller, recently hosted a book drive at Barnum Woods.
The K-Kids would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support of the "Big Book It, Bobcats," Book Drive. With everyone's help, over 2,500 books were collected!
The over 2,500 books from the Big Book Drive have been donated to:
- NUMC Children's Ward
- KPTC at Cohens Children’s Hospital
and Ronald McDonald House
- Big Chief Nursery School
- Firehouse Nursery School
- Scope PreSchool
- Cavalry School
- Children’s Learning Center
- Hempstead P.E.A.C.E. After School Program
- The Book Fairies
Congratulations to the winning class, Mr. Lupo & Mrs. Carrique's 3rd grade class, who donated 384 books!
As the 3rd grade was the grade that donated the most books, 723 books, the Barnum Woods K-Kids invited the entire 3rd grade to participate in the special assembly for the class and grade who donated the most books for the book drive, presented by Mrs. Kirichenko and her pet parrot, Caesar!
Mrs. Kirichenko presented the third grade with amazing facts and information about Scarlet Macaws and parrots, in general, as she had her Scarlet Macaw, Caesar, there with her to help demonstrate some of these interesting facts to the students.
After the presentation, students were invited to ask questions, and boy, were there many! Caesar was a big hit, and everyone wanted to know as much as they could about this lovable and entertaining macaw!
As the winning class of the book drive, the students in Mr. Lupo & Mrs. Carrique's class were so excited to each take home a molted feather of Caesar's to keep as a "lucky feather"!
It was the "perfect parrot afternoon" for all of the third graders... and their teachers too!

“BARNUM RUNS ON RESPECT”
The students at Barnum Woods have been exploring the essence of RESPECT, capturing its importance through their thoughtful words and actions. Children are pledging to uphold respect as not just a principle, but a way of life. Each class in grades K-5 created posters to share their thoughts and experiences related to the character trait, RESPECT. Together, we can create a world where kindness, empathy, and dignity flourish!

Congratulations to all of our talented and creative 2024 PARP Bookmark Contest winners!! We are so proud of all of you and want to thank all of the students who participated in Ms. Guglielmo’s Annual PARP Bookmark Contest!

KINDNESS IS A CHAIN REACTION!
The Barnum Bobcats wrote acts of kindness that they performed at home or in school on strips of paper and linked them together to create a class chain. We connected all of the clas chains to link our school together in kindness.
Our chain demonstrates how our individual acts of kindness have the power to inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of positivity in our school.

Mr. Longo's 5th graders and Mrs. Chionchio's Kindergarten students teamed up to work on a fun writing activity today. Mr. Longo's fifth graders showed great excitement as they assisted these young beginner writers on a spring writing activity to express how Barnum Woods has helped them bloom and grow this year! It was wonderful to see our fifth graders modeling great writing skills to these young learners and becoming mentors to our enthusiastic Kindergarten children.

This week's lucky "Friday Spin It To Win It" winners were so excited to use their gold coins in our Barnum Book Vending Machine to choose their very own special books to read this weekend!

The Barnum Woods 2nd Annual “Pi” Eating Contest was a great success! The BW Student Council raised about $1,500 for scholarships for EMHS graduates by hosting a PIE EATING CONTEST today! Staff members were cheered on by the students while they competed in this amazing event!

March is Music in our Schools Month! Students have been celebrating by learning about different genres of music, listening to great musical artists from the past and present, and dressing up to match the various types of music that have been introduced to them. Today, students and staff dressed up for Country Music Day! Barnum Woods turned into Wild, Wild West Wednesday! Everyone had a rootin’ tootin’ good time in their jeans, flannels, overalls, boots, hats, and bandanas! Yeehaw! 🤠

Today, Mrs. Vitale and Ms. Cusumano's fourth grade class had the opportunity to listen to this wonderful book, Words and your Heart, by Kate Jane Neal. The Barnum Woods Student Council is so excited to share the results of the recent Coin Challenge that took place at Barnum Woods!
